Hydropolis is a partially underwater hotel being built in Dubai, and scheduled to open at the end of 2007. It costs £300 million, has 220 suites and covers 2.6 square kilometres, about the size of London's Hyde Park. It will be about 20 meters under the sea, or 66 feet. It has been planned that it will produce its own clouds, to protect guests from the Persian Gulf sun. The designer, Joachim Hauser, said in 2006 that one of the reasons it is being built is so that people who cannot swim will be able to explore the wonders of the sea.
